The Greek automotive market (May 2025)

Passenger cars

New: The new passenger car market was up by +13,9% in May compared to May 2024.

In the first five months of 2025, 63.515 new passenger cars have been registered compared to 63.873 the year before (-0,6%).

Hybrid passenger car registrations reached 7.459 units (47,6%), followed by 5.477 petrol cars (35,0%), 1.066 plug-in hybrid cars (6,8%), 746 electrical ones (4,8%) and 246 diesel cars (1,6%). 60,8% of total passenger car registrations are cars with engine size up to 1.400 cc.

Light Commercial Vehicles
(gross weight up to 3.5 tons)

New: The light commercial vehicle market was up by +37,1% in May compared to May 2024.

Since January 2025, 4.068 light trucks have been registered compared with 3.928 the same period in 2024 (+3,6%). Pick-ups represent the highest share in the market (41,5%) followed by Vanettes with a market share of 32,5%.

In May 2025 Pick-Ups represent the highest share in the light commercial vehicle market (49,5%), followed by Vanettes with a market share of 25,7%.

Light commercial vehicles market posted 949 registrations in May 2025 compared to 692 the year before (+37,1%).

Commercial Vehicles
(gross weight over 3.5 tons)

New: The commercial vehicle market was up by +38,7% compared to May 2024.

Since the beginning of the year, 283 units were registered as compared to 527 the year before, suggesting a decrease of -46,3%.

In May 2025, 86 trucks were sold in total, compared with 62 the year before (+38,7%).

Moreover, imported used commercial vehicles still cover the greatest share of the specific market segment. New CVs represent only a small percentage, pushing the average age of commercial vehicles in Greece to high levels. This, expectedly, generates environmental and road safety issues.

Buses

New: The bus market decreased in May by -82,9%, as compared to May 2024.

During the first five months of the year, 403 buses were registered compared with 463 the year before (-13,0%).

Regarding May 2025, 50 buses were registered compared to 293 buses in May 2024 (-82,9%).
